Dear 6th Grade Parent,
We have made it through the first month of Middle School. I am pretty certain that you are finding the experience very different than your student's elementary years.
Now that the orientations, open houses, and the first weeks adjustments, you are more than likely beginning to realize just how different the Middle School Learning Environment is from your student's Elementary years.
To help out, I am creating this Parent Guide to familiarize you to understand my classroom procedures, policies, and expectations.
I am positive that we will all have a great year and I look forward to working with each of you throughout this year to assist your child in having a successful and positive experience in my classroom.
What you can do to help you child succeed in my classroom.
Together we can help your student to have a great year.

What you can do to help you child succeed in my classroom.
- Know what your child’s assignments are by checking their Planner daily. This page is filled out in class on Mondays and it is and is a recording of what I plan to cover and do in class that week
- Check My website often because this is where you can find my lesson plans, Updates to the weeks work, Homework assignments and due dates. You can also download lost or forgotten assignments here as well as downloading the Powerpoints used in class that week.
- Have your child share his or her Science notebook with you, showing you what has been recorded as we progress through the content. Ask your child to explain why these ideas are important. You can also use this as a time to help our child learn organization skills by making sure everything is in the binder and placed behind the proper tab. Students should also keep a table of contents for each divider.
- Look over completed work (homework, quizzes, and tests) and make sure that errors have been corrected.
- help your child to create a system for transporting homework home, setting aside time to work on homework and then helping them to organize their homework for return on the due date. I will share one possible way to deal with homework in a later section of this Guide
- Encourage your child to come in before school if he or she needs extra help.
- Parents are encouraged to check the PinPoint on line grade on a regular basis in order to keep on top of your student's progress in the class.
- Read through this guide to become familiar with the procedures and expectations for my class.
Together we can help your student to have a great year.
